Effective engagement practice

Facebook and our Sunday Summary have the highest engagement rates. Some of our readers like the idea of a "newsletter" that they can get weekly with all the news. And Facebook gets far more comments and discussions going than Disqus on our own site.

Our goal is to get readers to be engaged and informed members of the community. Whether it's celebrating a local hero or helping get out the vote, we want residents to feel like they have a role in the community.

Revenue challenges

We haven't defined and offered sponsorships to more than our main site pages. There's likely a ton of opportunity to offer advertising in different sections. We are about to move to a more sophisticated web site and are hoping that actually having sections, like sports, will make it easier for some organizations/businesses to buy sponsorship space.
