Effective engagement practice

Facebook and daily (M-F) newsletter; every morning bet. 6:30-7 a.m. a newsletter goes out to about 2,900 subscribers with links and brief description of the day's stories (also has links to the stories from the last 1-2 days, plus an events calendar). Mail chimp says 73% of the audience is 'very engaged' The average open rate is 46.5%.

Around the same time as the newsletter goes out, each story is posted on FB (and Twitter). I watch in google analytics (not frequently though) what my referral rate is, and I see in the weekly email from facebook if my audience engagement grows, followers/likes grow, etc.

Revenue challenges

I can't yet generate enough revenue to pay people to take on some of the responsibilities I have, to take them off my plate. I'm publisher, editor, ad sales person, social media manager, reader relations, everything...
