Greenwich Free Press is a local news source that covers government issues, real estate, schools, police & fire, business, arts and non-profit activity in Greenwich, Conn. The site launched in February 2014 by Leslie Yager, a former Patch.com editor. GFP offers a free daily newsletter 7 days a week at 6:00am. Revenue: Advertising.

Introduction by publisher

Greenwich is a sizable town, with 60,000 residents and a high school that enrolls 2,700 students. We compete against a daily paper that's been around forever, as well as a weekly, but we're making inroads. At our two-year mark we hit 230,000 page views/month, with 42,000 unique visitors.
Our content is strictly limited to Greenwich, and we've found that coverage of town meetings otherwise neglected – Parks & Rec, Planning & Zoning and Harbor Management Commission – has set us apart. Even more, as a mother whose daughter attended Greenwich Public Schools, our best news tips come from other mothers!

Effective engagement practice

Facebook! We put a short link and intro to every feature we publish on Facebook. Twitter also very effective.
