TAP into Summit

TAP into Summit is an independently-owned local news site operating as a franchisee in the TAPinto.net network. Launched as The Alternative Press in 2008, the network shifted to a franchise model with independent ownership in 2013-14 and re-branded as TAPinto. The network provides franchisees with tech support, regional ad sales, editorial guidelines and business training in exchange for an annual fee. Revenue: Advertising.

Introduction by publisher

We have become the "hometown newspaper" by being omnipresent in what truly matters to the community. We are the only entity that covers all government meetings, BOE meetings, as well as local events, cause-related activities, and sports. Major point of differentiation is that I (the owner / publisher) live in the town, and that affords opportunities that would not otherwise be present as to connectivity and information flow.

Only publish content if it has -- at minimum -- at least a tangential relation to the town.

Effective engagement practice

Symbiotic relationship between social media -- primarily Facebook -- and the site. Consumers discover one or the other and become engaged in both. Twitter reach is rapidly expanding.
