Morristown Green
Morristown, New Jersey
Kevin Coughlin

Morristown Green was originally launched in 2007 by the Newark Star-Ledger as an online experiment. It was relaunched in 2010 as an independent site by journalist Kevin Coughlin after he left the Star-Ledger. The site covers community news, events and business.  Bonus points: Coughlin has received numerous community awards. Revenue: Grants, advertising.

Introduction by publisher

The Morristown Green was a gathering place long before George Washington arrived here. We continue that tradition-- online, as THE place to come for local news and shared opinions, and in real space, at community events we organize. MorristownGreen.com fills a void left by rapidly vanishing newspapers.

Effective engagement practice

Facebook. Our stories generate more comments there than on our site. Crime, certain human interest pieces and development issues get lots of reach on FB.

Business challenge

Finding the right ad salesperson has proven frustrating. Go-getters who are reliable, organized, knowledgeable about the area and willing to work on commission are rare creatures.
