Fred Steiner launched The Bluffton Icon in 2009 for this rural northwestern Ohio community of nearly 4,000. Today it draws 1,000 views each weekday and has more than 55 advertisers. In March, 2012, Steiner launched a sister site, The Ada Icon, in a nearby community.
